High School Curriculum Overview

Positive Prevention  is a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide California adolescents with the vital information and support they need to choose behaviors that reduce their risk of becoming infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrom (AIDS), and related STDs.
While the general public is aware of HIV/STDs through media coverage, the challenge lies in translating this awareness into effective classroom instruction and schoolwide commitment to HIV/STD prevention.  Positive Prevention is a simple yet thorough prevention curriculum best implemented with the context of comprehensive school health/science education.  Data and terminology reflect the most recent trends in HIV and other STDs.  Lesson content is in compliance with California Education Code Sections 51930-51939, required for comprehensive HIV prevention education.
Positive Prevention has been designed to facilitate a safe and open classroom environment that acknowledges the diversity of personal, family, cultural and community experiences and beliefs, and examines these diverse viewpoints within the context of preventing the spread of HIV and other STDs. Students are led through a "guided discovery" process to support healthy and responsible decision-making.
